Hotels in Melbourne – How far in advance to reserve?

hotels
gnanow2007 asked:

I’m planning on attending the Australian Open (tennis) in 2010 and of course, would like to stay in a hotel near Melbourne Park. It’s still a bit early but I was wondering 1) which hotels are both reasonably priced and relatively close to the venue and 2) how far in advance I would have to reserve a room.

Book one year ahead…i tried doing this for Australian Open 2009 but i had to cancel last Sept. I booked the hotel in February 2008 and they gave me the season high price for this event which was Aud 120.Its a single private room. The B and B was somewhere in east melbourne. However some hotels/hostels dont give the price yet as early as Jan 2009 for the Tennis Open 2010. All you have to do is email and follow-up. If you want to save some money, you can book somewhere not in the CBD. City transport is very efficient in melbourne and you can also take the free tourist bus which takes off from Federation square and stops to all the major tourists attraction in melbourne. You can hop on and hop off for free!!

2010 is a long way away. Hotels usually set their rates and negotiate volume discounts inside 1 year.

There are approximately 24 options close by. Cheaperthanhotels provides some good options that you can book at a discount here : and Equavista searches around 30 sites concurrently to find the website with the lowest rate :

If you book 9 months in advance this should the earliest you need. Tehre are maps and pictures to help you decide what hotels are the best for your needs , as answering this is kinda subjective and hard to do.

    Good luck.
