It is because it is peak tourist time… try staying in Waukegan or Gurnee. the hotels are considerably cheaper and Chicago is not even 15 minutes away. Just jump on the highway
Head over to and click the “Check Availability” button. Choose your dates, submit the form, then sort the results by price (that’ll put cheapest places first).
You can then read about each hotel, view pics, book online, etc.
Looks like the Skylark Motel Chicago Midway Airport has rooms @ $87.00 for that night.
No no, it’s not peak tourist season, it’s convention season. I work at a hotel downtown, and our rates were $99 over last weekend which is about $200 less than they usually are. This week however, the whole city is basically sold out for a week because of the Hardware Convention…
Then right after convention season you’re going to hit tourist season until the end of summer.
Because it’s downtown CHICAGO, not downtown Podunk. This a world class city with world class museums, shopping, business HQs, etc. Big high rollers come to down to do business, etc. I mean, Donald Trump picked downtown Chicago for the site of his newest biggest hotel. So it follows that downtown hotels are going to be expensive. If you want something cheaper, try hotels in the Greektown area or other parts of the city.
there are alot of hotels with different rates go to google.com and type in chicago hotels and there are also hotels 15-20 min drive away with only 40 bucks a night and 230 a week so that is cheap!! and yes april and March are more because of spring break time Every1 knows that,it is like that any where were people go for vacation
Waukegan and Gurnee are MUCH more than 15 minutes away. Even with no traffic, you couldn’t make it downtown in 30 minutes, let alone 15. On an average day with traffic, it’ll take an hour, easy.
If you’re not picky about where you stay, search the hostels. There are several in the city that have decent reviews.

Good luck!
Look at craigslist or vrbo.com for reasonable apartment or condo rentals for the night. Try inns or B&B’s for less expensive lodging.

I am always finding good hotels at reasonable prices there. Can’t help much though, if as another poster mentioned there are conventions.
It’s worth a try, anyway.
